Peter Zhang - Violin

Founder and Head Violin Tutor of the Australian String Academy

Peter ZhangFounder and Head Violin Tutor of the ASA. Professor Peter Zhang was born as Shi-xiang Zhang in Beijing, China and graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Master violin teacher for over 50 years. As a visiting professor of violin, he has given master classes all over the world, including the United States, Australia and Germany.

A regular adjudicator at International violin competitions, in 1985 he was awarded a certificate for outstanding teaching by the conservatory and a certificate for excellence in teaching by the Art and Literature Association of Shanghai in 1986.

In 1995 Zhang was selected by the Bao-Gang Educational Foundation as the best teacher and by Shanghai Government to be in "THE TOP TEN OF 1995". In 1994, the Chinese Central Government gave him the highest honour for his excellent work in violin teaching in China. Lord Yehudi Menuhin has described Professor Zhang as "one of the greatest teachers of violin in the world today".

Professor Zhang's wife, Hu Jian-ming, will be one of the accompanists and has kindly offered to assist with the accompanying on a pro bono basis. They have lived permanently in Australia since 1995. Professor Zhang teaches at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Australian Institute of Music, and the Sydney University.
