Currently the Resident Pianist at the Australian National Academy of Music, Timothy enjoys a reputation as one of Australia's leading pianists. In a wide-ranging repertory he performs regularly in recital as a soloist and in partnership with leading Australian and international musicians and ensembles.
Timothy received his Bachelor of Music at the University of Melbourne with first class honours and as top performance student in each year of the course. He then continued his studies in Europe, receiving his Diploma with a rarely awarded distinction from the Ministry of Education and as dux of his year at the Nicoḷ Paganini Conservatorium in Genova, Italy.
A first-prize winner of piano and chamber music competitions including the Premio Kawai- Tortona, the Palma d'Oro- Finale Ligure and in trio the 1st Chamber Music Competition of Liguria, Timothy concertized widely in Italy for almost a decade. He was invited to perform works by Luciano Berio in the composer's presence and was a member of the Orfeo and Aulodia contemporary music ensembles. He performed in numerous festivals including Chiavari, Bordighera, Ravello and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
On his return to Australia Timothy has appeared at the ANAM Autumn Music Festival, Queensland Biennial Festival of Music, the Melbourne International Arts Festival, Port Fairy (Victoria), Music in the Round at Monash University, the Utzon Room music series at the Sydney Opera House and the Perth Concert Hall Summer Series. Among others he has performed in recital with Alexander Baillie, Howard Penny, Wanda Wilkomirska, Daniel Kossov, Tanya Prochazka, Peter Exton, William Hennessy, Philippe Muller, Michael Goldschlager, Oleh Krysa, Rudolf Koelman, Suren Bagratuni, Patricia Pollett, Caroline Henbest, Brett Dean, Paul Neubauer, John Harle, Paul Rozcek, John Harding, Csaba Erdelyi, Howard Davis, Ma Xiaohui, Mats Lidstrom, Alexander Ivashkin, Geoffrey Collins, Hansjorg Schellenberger, Merlyn Quaife, the Griffith Trio, the Australia Ensemble and is a founding member of Ensemble Liaison.
Timothy has been an assistant teacher to Professor Lidia Baldecchi Arcuri at the Nicolo Paganini Conservatorium, a guest lecturer at Melbourne University- Faculty of Music, the Victorian College of the Arts, Griffith University- Brisbane and has taught and lectured at the Australian Institute of Music- Sydney. Together with Prof. Baldecchi Arcuri, he has presented seminars on pianistic performance for the Australian Music Teachers Association.
Timothy has recorded for the RAI in Italy and in Australia for 2MBS, 3MBS and ABC-Classic FM, where he has also developed and presented concerts dedicated to Australian Composers.
