"Many Sydney schools have fine music programs and ensemble playing is always an integral part of this. Years ago as part of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville, I put into place a chamber music competition which attracted great competitive enthusiasm from the schools and has been an enduring annual event. If we could do it in Townsville, we can do it in Sydney with its wealth of talent and quality music programs."
